it's not the polka that makes you dance...

I've lived in Columbus for almost 11 years, except for a few summers during college.

Despite my love of All Things Festival, all things foreign, beer, and most things German, I've somehow always managed to miss Oktoberfest. This year I'm going to try really, really hard to make it. There should be a ton of great photo taking opportunities as an added incentive to drop the $8. (I'm really behind on updating my photos).

web design woes

I've taught myself some basic-to-intermediate web design and development over the years. This used to be really easy, when everything was just HTML based and the most complicated things were tables and frames. Especially since "teaching myself" mostly meant I would skim a tutorial, not absorb much, then find a web page with the effect I wanted. Then I'd just view the page source and figure out what the author did to get that effect and duplicate it.

So about a year or more ago I decided to learn CSS, because it really is awesome. Except I didn't learn it, I skimmed enough stuff online to make the web site work how I wanted (and since I wanted really basic, it was extra easy). Again, I didn't absorb anything.

I'm working on another project, and really sort of need those pull-down navigation menus for this particular site, because there's a LOT of stuff on it. After spending a whole hour or more skimming articles and copying&pasting examples, I still haven't figured it out. And I'm bored with trying to figure it out. (ADHD at it's finest - I super obsess, but when I'm done I'm done).

I really need to get this project done.

So, basically, if you understood anything in this post and can say "oh yeah, you just need to add this magic codey stuff" or otherwise speak words of wisdom - leave me a comment or something. I'll send you good karma vibes in return.

... and the countdown begins

It's Saturday morning, and I made it until 10:22 am before I started hearing the sounds of TBDBITL (That's The Best Damn Band In The Land, the Ohio State marching band, for those of you out of the loop).

Why am I hearing marches and other football favorites? Because my neighbors are playing it, apparently on a loop, in preparation for the First Game Of The Season! Which starts at 7:00 pm. We apparently need 8.5 hours of tailgaiting fun. This would be slighlty less weird if my immediate neighbors were actual college kids instead of a bunch of hispanic guys who appear to be your average stereotypical hispanic guys who don't go to OSU.

Don't get me wrong - I'm a total band/marching band/DCI/any form of music GEEK. Heck, this past week I not only watched Drumline, which I own, I then watched it the next day with commentary. I was excited when I saw that DCI is going to television their finals in movie theatres. And the best part of Ohio State Football is TBDBITL. But I'd really like to limit that to just a few hours before gametime.

congrats california

California is poised to set a new standard in planet stewardship. Clicky clicky to read.

I hope Ah'nold follows through, and the rest of the world wakes up and starts caring about the earth, too.
